Gergesa A town on the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee. It was called "the country of the Gergesenes" and here Jesus cast out demons. Matthew 8: 23-34. A large monastery and church have been excavated there, which would indicate that this was the place that was believed to be the scene of the miracle.
