St Charles of Mount Argus

Information

John Andrew Houben took vows as a Passionist in 1846 and came to Mount Argus in 1857, where he spent the rest of his priestly life. His ministry in the confessional was renowned, especially among the poor. He died on this date, 5th January, in 1893.

Blessed Charles of Mount Argus became Saint Charles in June of 2007.  It was a particularly special time for the order, which celebrated the 150th anniversary of its foundation in Dublin, in 2006.

The Passionists were founded by Saint Paul of the Cross to keep alive the memory of Christ's passion.

A new saint is announced

Prayer for the Intercession of St Charles

Eternal Father, you called St Charles of Mount Argus to bring good news to the poor and to heal the broken hearted; you opened his eyes to see the presence of Christ crucified in those who suffer. Through his intercession, may we come to know your compassionate love for us, by experiencing the blessing of your healing power, through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

Saint Charles of Mount Argus, pray for us.
