Saint Bernard was born in 1090 near Dijon, in France. He was abbot of the Cistercian monastery of Clairvaux. St Bernard wrote 86 sermons on the Canticle of Canticles.
Bernard of Clairvaux is considered to be one of the most influential writers in Marian devotion.
He fought against the Albigensian heresy. He is known as Doctor Mellifluus. He died in 1153 and is the Patron Saint of Beekeepers and of Gibraltar.
