Garden 08/09

Garden 08/09

In June the children got to plant sunflowers and lupins.

All ready to hoe!

The school garden work still continues. Since September 2008 all hands have been on deck and lots of work has been done. We all helped out with the harvest and here are some of our vegetables that we grew. It was very rewarding to see and bring home our own vegetables to have for dinner. See Below:

At the start of the new school year in September when the weather starts to get really cold we have to look after all the birds and wildlife in our garden. Everyone gets involved and we feed the birds on a regular basis. See Below:

In October we cut our wildflower meadow and we left the grass lying there for ten days. Then we picked it up and put it in our grass composting area, it was very hard work but we all helped out! We did alot of weeding in and tidying up in the garden too. (See Below).

The flowers boxes have been redone. We felt this year we would be able to do them ourselves, last year we went over to Carolans Nurseries and they showed us how to do them. First we emptied the dead flowers from the boxes and we tidied up the boxes. (See Below).

Then we replanted flowers in the flower boxes (See Below), we are getting really good at this gardening lark, some are saying we are getting green fingers but we can't see that!!

As the weather gets really cold and frosty (November) we get to see all the changes in the garden. One frosty morning we all wrapped up and went for a walk up the garden to the woodland and it was amazing. Our pond was frozen so we made some slits init to help the creatures frogs, leeches etc breathe. See below:
