Trips

St. Louis N.S. go on lots of day trips. Here are some trips we have gone on recently.

Solstice Arts Centre

On Thursday 4th December 2008, we went to Solstice Arts Centre in Navan for ' Maisy Daly's Rainbow'. The children all enjoyed it and it was funny and in a way sad also. This production by Tall Tales Theatre Co. was a magical fusion of dance and theatre.

(Above) Here are some of Junior & Senior Infants in Solstice around a great christmas tree. Solstice held a workshop called Winterrific for community groups and schools in Navan and this was one of their creations.

(Above) Here we have some aspiring actors and actresses that might take to the stage in Solstice. Some already have, Caolach, Olwyn, Rachel and Patrick have all appeared in Rathkenny Revels in Solstice.

St. Mary's Credit Union Navan

On Thursday 13th November 2008 the senior room (3rd - 6th Classes) went on a guided tour to St. Marys Credit Union in Navan as part of our green schools programme. It is an energy efficient building and we were fascinated by all the energy saving equipment and gadgets that the building has. Roisin was our guide and she was very helpful and she looked after us really well. We had some light refeshments and we also got some pens and pencil cases to keep as souvenirs. (See below).

Armagh Planetarium

On November 11th 2008 we went on a trip tp Armagh Planetarium, which was part of our Pride of Place prize. 1st class to 6th class went on this trip. We arranged to go on this week as we incorporated Science Week which was 9th November - 16th November. When we got there we had a snack and then we saw a short presentation about astronauts. We had a workshop where we were shown how rockets operate, then we made our own rockets. We went outside to launch our rockets which was great fun. We then ate lunch and then we looked at the exhibitions. When we were in Armagh we decided to visit Armagh's two Cathedrals (Church of Ireland and Catholic) which was a short journey away. Please see photos of the trip below.

October 2008 National Tree Day: We went on a trip tp Dalgan Park to celebrate Tree Day which was on Thursday 9th October. We were met by Ger Clarke (Ecologist based at Dalgan Park) who gave us a guided tour of the woods and also a guided tour up at the Hill of Tara. It was a great day enjoyed by the whole school and it was even better that we got to leave our school bags at home.

W5 Belfast: Last September we travelled to Belfast for a trip to W5. We won this prize for winning best new garden in the pride of place competition. See photos below of the great day we had. See photo below of pupils at a workshop in W5 in Belfast.

Botanic Gardens: This trip was organised by Meath County Council in February 2008 as a preparation for Pride of Place schools garden competition. We found this trip very helpful when we started planning for this year’s work. Pictured below are the pupils and Ms Coogan that went on this trip.

Library Visit: We visited Slane library to do a workshop with Author Oisin McGann. We enjoyed this visit as he is also a great cartoon artist and he showed us lots of his drawings and we got to sketch some too. Pictured below are pupils with Oisin McGann in Slane library and another photo of one of his great sketches.

Newgrange: In February as part of our History (Stone Age) we visited Newgrange. The tour was very interesting and we got to go inside the tomb. Pictured below are the group that travelled to Newgrange.

Knowth: We had our trip to Knowth in May 2008. It was cold and wet but it was an excellent tour. It was very informative and we all learned lots from it. Pictured below is the group getting their guided tour.

Blooms: Our school was selected by Agri Aware for this trip to Blooms on May 30th. We all enjoyed this trip also because we had fun and we saw lots of new ideas for our garden/woodland. See picture below of the pupils with Daragh McCullough from Agri Aware at the Bord Bia workshop at Blooms in the Phoenix Park.
