Seachtain na Gaeilge 2009

Once again this year, we got stuck into all things Irish.

First of all, the children of the school had 4 weeks of Irish dancing lessons, where they were delighted that they remembered so much from last year and learned more new steps for our 2nd annual ceili (March 19th)

Harry Long, our Music teacher, taught more Irish tunes on the tin whistle.

The teachers of the school used this opportunity to teach new Irish songs and poems. The ceili was a platform for performing all that had been learned about Irish culture.

Poetry Project 2009

Our school entered a Poetry Competition and Rachel, Lisa, Megan, Caolach and Tom’s poems were published in a poetry book entitled Nature and Poetry. Five of our students took a trip to Navan Education Centre to collect their awards for Poetry composition. Terry Hassett Henry (children’s author), read out each child’s poem, as she felt it was important for the poems to be heard.

It was a proud moment for the children and their families when they were presented with the beautifully illustrated book, produced by the Education Centre and containing 45 poems by children in Counties Meath and Louth.

This was quite an achievement for our school, having five winners published when only 45 were chosen from two counties. The children were also presented with a certificate of achievement, followed by very welcome refreshments. It was a memorable occasion.
