Ptolemais Ptolemais was a Greek city and port, located in Galilee, between Tyre and Caesarea. In Old Testament times it was called Acco, when it was a Canaanite city and the most important port serving Galilee. Acco was renamed Ptolemais during the time of King Ptolemy's rule over Palestine, when it was an important centre of Egyptian rule. It was a centre of the metal-working industry. Paul was there for one day on his return to Jerusalem from his third missionary journey, and it was already the home of a Christian church Acts 21: 1-15. Today the city is 9 miles (15k) north of Haifa.
