Homosexualist Education Minister Moved to Transportation

By Patrick B. Craine

TORONTO, Ontario, January 25, 2010 (LifeSite) –

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty did a major overhaul of his cabinet last week. From the viewpoint of pro-family advocates, however, McGuinty’s most significant move was to transfer lesbian and gay activist Kathleen Wynne, right, from Education to Transportation.

Wynne has insisted in the past that she did not enter politics as a “gay activist”; but as Education Minister she has made it her mission to promote “equity” in Ontario's schools, which has included promoting openness to homosexuality.

Before entering politics, Wynne helped found an organization that raised funds for homosexual youth groups, which distributed over $50,000.  In 2001, as a public school trustee, she helped pass a measure to promote pro-homosexual teaching materials in schools.

Last year, Wynne implemented the Equity and Inclusive Education Strategy, mandating that every school board in the province develop an equity policy that recognizes, in part, “sexual orientation” as a ground for non-discrimination.

This policy is required equally from Ontario's Catholic schools, despite the fact that the Vatican has condemned such recognition of “sexual orientation,” and has warned that this recognition “can easily lead” to the promotion of homosexuality.  When pressed recently as to whether Catholic schools would be permitted to continue teaching the Church's doctrine that homosexuality is “objectively disordered” and homosexual acts are “gravely depraved” under Wynne’s policy, a Ministry spokesperson refused to answer.

Pro-family groups are hoping for more understanding from Wynne's replacement, Leona Dombrowsky, who has moved from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.  Before her election to the legislature in 1999, Dombrowsky served as the chair of a Catholic school board for seven years.
