St. Denis came from Rome to France in about the middle of the third century. He was the first bishop of Paris. St. Denis was martyred in 258 A.D. along with Eleutherius (Presbyter), and Rusticus (Deacon) on Montmartre. He is the Patron Saint of France and of Paris.
