Pope Benedict XVI has released his message for the next World Youth Day to be held in Madrid 2011. In warm and personal way, the Pope has invited young people around the world to turn out for the celebrations which will be held in the Spanish capital next summer. Recalling his own youth, Benedict XVI reflected on his time as a university student and the challenges of responding affirmatively to his vocation to the priesthood.

Recalling his own youth, Benedict XVI reflected on his time as a university student and the challenges of responding affirmatively to his vocation to the priesthood.

The Pope also looked at the theme for the next World Youth Day: "Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith". He encourages young people to "strengthen (their) faith in God" to encounter Christ and be witnesses of faith in him, without compromise.

In his message, Benedict XVI calls on young people to overcome ways of life or search for material wealth which leave them feeling insecure - and instead to seek the peace and security found in only in Christ.

The message is addressed to all young people, whom the Pope hopes to meet at the next World Youth Day in Madrid 2011.
